Life insurance provider Sun Life celebrates 200th birthday

Happy birthday Sun Life

Market leading insurance company, Sun Life, is today celebrating 200 years at the forefront of the life insurance industry.

First established in 1810, Sun Life was first created following the Sun Fire Office Board’s decision to provide life assurance products as well.

Since this point Sun Life has gone from strength to strength by snapping up other life assurance firms along the way and rolling them into one constantly expanding business.

Sun Life has also established itself as one of the great pioneers of insurance with the introduction of the first over-50s life plan as no-medical insurance.

Mark Howes, Managing Director of Sun Life Direct gave a round up of the company’s illustrious history:

“Sun Life launched 200 years ago to offer a much-needed service to people and we are proud to still be offering the same standards of excellence and innovation in the 21st century.

“We’ve had an interesting 200 years, including turning down the then, 25-year-old Charles Dickens’ application in 1838, on the grounds that he ‘works too much’. But 200 years on, we continually strive to offer our customers what they need, which, I believe is one of the secrets to our continuing success in the market. We are already looking forward to celebrating our next milestone.”
Currently, Sun Life’s biggest competitors are Aviva and Direct Line as competition increases within price comparison industry.
