Seaweed could be key in tackling obesity says Aviva healthcare

As one of the UK’s biggest providers of healthcare, it’s no surprise that Aviva is well aware of the detrimental effects that obesity can have on an individual’s well being.

In a recent news report, Aviva echoed the findings of a team of scientists from Newcastle University who are claiming that seaweed could be key in the fight against the flab.

During studies, scientists monitored how adding seaweed to food could reduce the uptake of fat by around 75 per cent.

Dr Ian Brownlee co-lead the project and was quoted a saying:

“The findings suggest hat if we can add the natural fibre to products commonly eaten daily – such as bread, biscuits and yoghurt – up to three quarters of the fact contained in that meal could simply pass through the body.

“We have already added the alginate to bread and initial taste tests have been extremely encouraging, Now the next step is to carry out clinical trials to find out how effective they are when eaten as part of a normal diet.”

Look out for seaweed snacks coming to a supermarket near you soon.
