Insurance giant Aviva has provided an intriguing insight into the mindset of UK workers via its latest Real Retirement Report.
According to the report, almost 70% of UK adults intend to work beyond retirement age while one in ten of those believe they will never stop working.
The findings also highlighted the rise and rise of ‘part-tirement’ which sees over 55s embrace self employment as a means to continue working, be it at a pace to suit them.
Aviva’s research also uncovered that the reasons for keeping in work extended well beyond the financial benefits.
Instead the most popular reasons for working included ‘keeping out from under their partner’s feet’, as well as maintaining an active mind and interacting with others.
Despiteworkers’ ambitions to work beyond the traditional age of retirement, Aviva went on to highlight growing trends within health which could see these ideas cut short.
Obesity, for example, is set to affect eight million over 50s by 2025 while ill health accounted for 40% of retirees reason for giving up work and is only set to continue.
